The Road Not Taken

We humans are a curious species.
Forever wondering, lamenting, regretting. I’m pretty sure the lion does not wonder what the other deer would have tasted like. But we? At the end of the day, the only question that we come back to is… What if?

What if I’d asked her out? What if I’d listened to him? What if I’d not taken science? ( I’m sure every science student thinks that one hundred times a day :p ) and so on.

A majority of our thoughts are occupied by these meaningless yet inescapable questions. Even on reaching the top of the ladder,  we always come back to pondering about the path we didn’t take, for it is in our nature to strive to do better and be the best. Things would be so much simpler if we stopped trying so hard, trying to mold things in our own version of ‘PERFECT‘. But have we ever stopped to wonder what if… that “other road” was even worse?

Who knows, probably Neil Armstrong didn’t even want to be an astronaut but something lead him down that path and I’m sure he didn’t regret that ! We never thank our stars for the road we are on now, but want to curse them for the one that we missed. Where we are now is an accumulation of a thousand choices made and rejected. We’ve come so far ahead even when getting out of the bed each morning is a struggle :p Cherish it !

So, the only way is forward, making the best of what you have and who knows, you might just fall in love with the path you’re on. Ultimately, there is no point in  regretting over the unknown so better get busy with what you have and what you know. In the words of Robin Sharma, “Stop being a prisoner of your past. Be the architect of your future.” !!
