Sushant Rohilla Suicide Case: ‘He’ resigned from life, ‘They’ from office

Sushant Rohilla, a 4th year student of B.A. LLB in Amity University, had allegedly committed suicide at his residence in South Delhi’s Sarojini area on August 10th. The reason for the same being that, the deceased was barred from appearing for his 6th semester exam in May, due to shortage of attendance. According to the family members of Rohilla, he was promised by faculty members that students will be allowed to take exams and promoted to next semester as per the same; while in reality, he along with 19 other students, was not permitted to do the same, when time came.

Following Rohilla’s death, students of the university gathered outside premises and staged protests since August 16th, demanding a probe into accident along with resignation of concerned faculty members.

Following determined protests by students and alumni members of the university, after Sushant Rohilla killed himself, the Director of Amity Law School, BP Sehgal and faculty member Isheeta Rutabhasini resigned on August 19th. Round about 2 p.m, the college representatives showed their resignation letter to protestors, to which the students of Amity University showed satisfaction.

The students let their emotions out as they flooded the social networks with updates like, “Happy Independence Day ALSD” and what not. Undoubtedly, Amity Law School saw immense unrest after the suicide case, as #justiceforSushant trended and is still going over Facebook and Twitter. In the midst of all, social media as well as the public are showing great support to Sushant’s family.
