Sridevi: The Legend Departs

Chandini; the dream girl of Indian blockbusters Mrs. Sridevi Kapoor passed away in a very uncertain manner  on February 25, 2018. As per the reports, the veteran actor was in Dubai to attend a marriage, where she suffered a deadly heart attack, taking her away from us far and forever.

More than 180 films, number of prestigious awards like, Padama Shri (2013), Filmfare award for the best actress, Zee Cine Critics award for best actress, Nandi award for the best actress and the list goes on. Mrs. Sridevi Kapoor is regarded as the first female superstar of India.   She was the first actress to play protagonist role with great actors of those times namely, Mr. AmitabhBacchan, Rishi Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Gowinda, Rajnikant and Kamal Hasan. Her acting skills were unparallel to any other actresses then and even now. Famous actress Mrs. Shilpa Shetty once said; “Sridevi has a league of her own. She is the best!”  Indeed she is the best!

Sridevistarted her career at the age of four with South Indian films. She stepped into Bollywood  in 1979, making her first debut in ‘SolvaSawan’.  Being from South, she had a little problem with Hindi language initially. Her original voice was first heard in the film, ‘ Chandini’ whereby she spoke her dialogues herself. Before that, actresses like, Rekha and Naaz used to dub their films. The actress had starred in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam, and Kannada films.  Her films with Kamal Hasan made it look like an ‘ultimate couple’ as claimed by the fans.

An actress with uncountable achievements and fans worldwide brought a trauma for everyone with her news of demise. It is simply hard to believe. All Indianstars are equally shook and expressed their gloom through the medium of Twitter.  Rajnikant; “I’m shocked and very disturbed. I’ve lost a dear friend and the industry has lost a true legend. My heart goes out to her family and friends. I feel the pain with them #RIPSridevi … you will be missed.”

Priyanka Chopra;“I have no words. Condolences to everyone who loved #Sridevi.A dark day. RIP”However, a tweet by Congress, landed it in the hot water when it mentioned that Sridevi won ‘Padma Shri’ during UPA government. Such a comment was unappreciated by many owing to its political colour.

Shridevi’s such sudden and unpredictable death at the age of just 54, left the whole nation heartbroken.  Though she is not with us anymore but, she’ll always be there in our hearts as Chandini, the dream girl. May her soul rest in peace.

Sridevi; then, now, forever!
