Sparkles 2018: Enlightened & Brightened the City


The much-awaited event, ‘Sparkles’ 2k18, the tri-city’s biggest charity event was held at Parade Ground Sector 17 Chandigarh by NavSankalp on February 28, 2018

NavSankalp is a student run organization which makes judicious donations to children below the age of 17 admitted in PGIMER and GMSH-16. Till date NavSankalp has saved 155 lives by contributing a sum of about 57 lacs.

The event started with two standup comedy performances by amazingly talented artists of Chandigarh. Next performance on the stage was a classical dance. After the classical dance, kids jumped came on the stage and proved that anybody can dance.

The Aaveg group of MCM DAV College also gave a stunning performance which made the audience too to move their legs with them. The icing on the cake was the performance by DSW group of DAV College which will represent Chandigarh in the World Hip-hop Championship.

The enigmatic dance performances were followed by a mesmerizing act by specially abled students belonging to a blind school. The band performed a popular song by eminent Punjabi singer, Gurdas Maan which received a lot of applause from the audience.

Now, it was time for, undoubtedly, the most powerful performance of the evening by the members of Navsankalp itself. It was a play based on instances of acid attack on women. The entire 15 minutes play left everyone numb with a feeling of empathy for the victims of such attacks.  Each actor gave their very best and the collective effort is what resulted in that hair raising and stupendous performance. The play concluded with a powerful and inspiring message. It received its full share of applause and cheers from the audience.

The chief guest of Sparkles 2018, Mr. Kaptaan Singh Solanki, the Governor of Haryana was accompanied by other dignitaries including the Mayor and the Senior Deputy mayor of Chandigarh. To boost their moral and their charity based activities, he further donated a sum of rupees 51,000 to Navsankalp

“Navsankalp has managed to do a tremendous job once again. This NGO is symbolic of the good deeds in our society”, he said. To express gratitude from the entire team of Navsankalp and Sparkles, Vishal Nijhawan, the President of Navsankalp delivered a vote of thanks.

The next phase of the event began with a Bhangra, that captivated the audience in an aura of Punjab. There was a special mention of Harpriya Kaur (Founder of Navsankalp) parents who attends Sparkles each year and denoted an amount of ₹5000 this year.  Later, the much-awaited Fashion Show for the night which comprised of 9 couples in the western outfit and 11 couples for the traditional outfit sponsored by Vivaah. Rohit Beri and Sandra Beri Rodriguez, (The Training Academy) expressed their heartiest gratitude for the upcoming raw talent. – “Modelling is one of the most fastest growing sectors in the country, and we are very happy to see such novelty among the young blood”

The audience also witnessed the talents of R.J Manav from 93.4 FM and Ranjit Bawa who took the audience by storm with their majestic stage presence. Arunaph Bakshi (joint secretary) expressed his gratitude for the club saying – “I am delighted to see every navsankalp-ian working with such vigor and vitality.”  

 Therefore, just like the preceding years the event was concluded as a grand and massive success.
