PUSU conducts pres conference regarding campus firing incident

A Press Conference was held today by the Governing Council members and student leaders of PUSU under the Chairmanship of Jaskaran Singh Brar, Advocate, chairman of the supreme council and founder member of PUSU ( also having served as the President of PUSU from 1982-1988), regarding the 8th April firing incident in the campus. Among those present were Varinder Singh Gill (Senator, PU, Chandigarh), Parminder Jaswal Goldy, Navjot Saini, Udey Wirring, Cherry Brar, Amandeep Kamboj (Ex-Chairman), Kamaljit Singh Sidhu, Sumit Goklaney(Former PUSU leaders), Tejinder Singh, Hardik Ahluwalia, Chiranshu Ratan and other student leaders at Giza Restaurant, PU Campus. The press conference put light into the accusation of Navaldeep Singh, President PUSU, regarding the incident. Mr. Brar stated that it was a conspiracy against the students of PUSU by SOI, in lieu of the anti-fee hike agitation. On the day of the incident, Mr. Brar recalls that he received a call from an unknown number around 20:56 about the attack on Resham and admittance in PGI. Mr. Brar called Naval and found him in the hospital, informed beforehand. Naval was then whisked away by Sector 11 police and kept in illegal custody for about 41 hours. An FIR was written on 9/04/16; 1:27 hours whereas Naval was arrested around 9 on the 8th. According to the press release, Naval was not present at the incident, and Resham was shown to have carried the gun, whereas he was unconscious in PGI. The nature of the actual shooting incident was left to the police investigation but in the case of arrest foul play, political pressure and irresponsible regard of protocol was blamed. The question of the sudden missing firearm from the incident was put up. SOI’s silence regarding the incident was questioned. Mr. Brar appealed for justice and the unveiling of truth by subjecting the complainant to a lie detector test. He even stated that PUSU party was open for CBI investigation if that’s what it takes to prove the innocence of the students.
