PU celebrates International Students and National Education Day


Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) in collaboration with office of the Dean of International students, Panjab University, Chandigarh celebrated International Students Day and National Education Day to commemorate birth anniversary of Late Maulana Abul Kalam Azad on wednesday , November 18, 2015 at the Law auditorium, P.U. campus. International students from different countries like Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Iran, Thailand, Bangladesh, etc residing in PU were gathered to have a good time together. PU Vice Chancellor, Mr. Arun Grover was formally invited as the Chief guest for the evening, along with Dean of International Students Cell, Mrs. Deepti Gupta (Professor from English and Cultural Studies Department). It was a formal event which started with the PU anthem, followed by a girl performing an Iranian (Persian) song. Thai students presented Thai folk dance in their traditional outfits. VC gave a speech talking about the students progress, remembering Late Maulana Azad; his connection with PU and stressing the heritage and history of the university. Various students with excellent performance in different fields were awarded by the Chief guest. A group of Afghani students performed the National dance of Afghanistan, followed by a speech on the life and history of Azad. Two Sri Lankan students presented a PowerPoint presentation on Sri Lanka, talking about its culture, geography and people. The audience was addressed by Mrs. Deepti where she talked about a new program which shall be launched soon for the welfare of International students. An Iranian student presented a ppt. on the history and culture of Iran. Afghan students presented a fashion show in their traditional attires. Regional Director (ICCR) presented a paper on the activities of ICCR. A video clip on Afghanistan history and culture was showcased by students. A group of Afghan boys performed a dance form called ‘ Qarsak’. The evening ended with a last video on Thai life and culture, after which the audience dispersed for dinner.
