Acting upon its environmental objective, the Legal Aid Clinic of University Institute of Legal Studies, Panjab University organised a Plantation-cum-Cleanliness Drive on July 26, 2017 for the students of semester 9th of the department, who are regularly encouraged to participate in such society-oriented and environmental-centric activities, it being a part of their curriculum and otherwise.
The event was an aggregation of three inclusive activities, i.e. Plantation Drive, Environmental Rally and Cleanliness Drive and was presided over by Dr. Rattan Singh (Director, UILS), Dr. Rajinder Kaur (Professor, UILS) and the incharges of Legal Aid Clinic- Dr. Amita Verma, Dr. Karan Jawanda and Ms. Tanmeet.
Spanning from 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., it was kick-started by inspirational words from Dr. Rattan; who enlightened the students about the need of environmental awareness and how it can buttress our overall growth, kindling a re-energized spirit amongst the students for the cause. Following which the students planted saplings on the premises of UILS, and went on a rally covering the entire University campus spreading awareness on the importance of cleanliness. The students concluded conducted a Cleanliness Drive around the Students Centre (Stu-C) promoting use of dustbins and boycotting polythenes.
Such utilitarian and altruistic activities should be promoted more amongst the students as these initiatives only ensure that the students grow up to become responsible and prudent citizens of our society.
