Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh today observed “The International Day of Persons with
Disabilities”. NSS unit of PU initiated a drive, where more than 40 NSS volunteers of PU

The International Day of Persons with Disabilities is marked around the world on
December 3 every year to promote awareness and mobilize support for critical issues
pertaining to the inclusion of persons with disabilities in society and development.
Addressing the students, PU NSS Director Prof Yograj Angrish motivated the students for
pledging to donate eyes and body after their death. He informed the students that he had
already taken a pledge to donate his eyes and body after his death.
Prof Yograj Angrish said that the theme of the year is “Inclusion matters: access and
empowerment for people of all abilities” with the volunteers. He appealed the volunteers
to come forward and empower the disabled with all abilities. He also referred the
message given by the Secretary-General of United Nations, Ban Ki-moon.
Co-coordinator, Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan, Mr Gaurav Gaur shared that as per the
information available, there are around one billion people living with disabilities
worldwide who face barriers to inclusion in many key aspects of society. We should treat
all individuals on an equal basis. We should avoid discriminating people on the basis of
any physical, social or mental disability.
Mr. Gaurav Gaur, who has pledged in year 2004 to donate eyes and body, also motivated
the students to come forward for the noble cause of eyes and body donation.
