Justice (Retd.) Katju Opens Up Discussion In UILS

The Student Welfare Society of UILS, Panjab University organised a lecture-cum-interactive session with Justice (Retd.) Markandey Katju in the Law Auditorium, on November 16th. The event was attended by not only students but professors, lecturers and legal enthusiasts.

The former judge of the Hon’ble Supreme Court emphasised his lack of faith in the current political system of India. He addressed the issue of poverty and unemployment and iterated the need for hefty industrialisation in the country to solve these problems. He expressed the view that only a revolution could pull the country out of the rut. However, our learned speaker, who is very vocal on social media, avoided answering some of the sleazy questions.

Nevertheless, his participation in the interaction was very hearty and he enlightened the audience on the current legal scenario in the country. At the end of the session, the audience left with a heightened knowledge about the legal system of the country and the important aspects that our country needs to focus on to give it the shape of a better, advanced democracy.
