It Happens Only in India: Religious Guru Sprouting Violence

India has always been a diverse country but that diversity topped with the chauvinism and parochial mind-set makes it quite easy to “brain-wash” the common masses.

A large fleet of citizens flushed through the city of Panchkula to show their support for the head of Dera Sacha Sauda, Baba Gurmeet aka MSG, and for what? To prevent him from the charge of sexually molesting a girl? This is applaudable (sarcasm, readers). The guru is the epitome of courage, honesty, integrity, and thoughtfulness. He has gotten all the great qualities that one exemplary could posses. We should even wash his feet and drink that water to purify our souls, shouldn’t we?

caseMany came to the city to get a glimpse of their guru while others came to cause destruction. It was no doubt that the people knew where the verdict would go. All of us, as a matter of fact knew that he would be a convict. Be it a result of political drama or religious conflict, the city was going to be drowned in flames, but lucky us, saved just in time. Only a few shops and cars were burnt, a large number of people injured and even a few reported dead, that’s it. Even if some people die, let them die. If they burn, let them burn. The state will get grants from the centre and everything will be fine. The people who revolted, a few of them will be jailed and blamed. Others will continue their lives peacefully.

The whole exteriors of Sectors- 4, 5, 6, were torn apart. An explosion was clearly visible from as far as sector-27 at Tau Devi Lal Stadium, Sector-3. Masses of people walking on the streets, crowding and not letting the vehicles pass. No ambulance was allowed to even commute to the other side. The whole scenario of the city from that of calmness was drastically transformed to that of a crazy violent havoc.

What is more shocking is that some people were enjoying the event. They enjoyed blocking the convoy by laying down on roads and pelting stones.

This is what amounts to a human life, easy to manipulate. It is their belief, the belief that lets them cause mass destruction. Their belief in the guru, to be at the same position as that of God. Their belief in what they are doing is right.

case-2We get the kind of government that we deserve and what the BJP government has done is let the history repeat itself. A minor glimpse of Jaat Arakshan was seen on August 25th. When the government knew that it would be chaotic they should have made proper arrangements. One, they should have stopped the entry of the dera supporters aka Premis starting 23rd, and put entry restrictions (This task would have taken up a lot of time and human resource, but we could have avoided the upsurge.) Two, deployment of more para military personnel to control the mob with adequate machinery. We surely lack machinery starting from a number of customized rifles to the safety equipments.

The Article-144 that states, all authorities civil and judicial to act in aid of supreme court. A-144 was enforced but to no avail. This is how strong our system is. Even after the government let by CM Manohar Lal Khattar promised to not let any havoc happen, it still did. Is our system another work of helplessness? Can we never get a step ahead of political-religious mob? Or are we going to cage up with parochialism?
