Ignition is a four day long fest of Dr. Harvansh Singh Judge Dental College and Hospital. On its third day, which was on 1st December, many cultural activities took place.
The day started exactly at 10:30 with the beginning of the white coat ceremony. The ceremony took place in the Law auditorium of Panjab University. It was a ceremony to mark the welcome of all the first years to the prestigious university and the medical field. In the presence of all students, parents, teachers and heads of all departments (HODs) the first years of both BDS and MDS courses were handed their white coats with the College’s emblem stitched to their pockets. The chief guests for the occasion were Dr. Bhupesh Satija and Dr. Niharika Kharbanda. Both are alumni of the dental college and had come back to the college as successful civil cervices officers. While Dr. Satija is now under training for Assistant Commissioner with Indian Revenue Services, Dr. Kharbanda is the District Nodal Officer in the Excise and Taxation Department of Punjab. Both the chief guests urged the students to do justice to their white coats by working hard and working with compassion. All the first year students also took an oath lead by the principal of the college, Dr. Ashish Jain. They all promised to do their best to become as good clinicians and doctors as they can. The ceremony ended with a lunch organized for the students and their parents.
After the white coat ceremony, the cultural activities of the fest commenced. The first activity was a small game of antakshiri between four teams belonging to the HSJ dental college. Ishaan Sharma and Harpreet Bains hosted the event.
This was followed by a solo singing competition. As a filler, a group of teachers of HSJ dental college performed Bhangra that was applauded by the audience and thoroughly enjoyed. A solo dancing competition also took place followed by a duet dancing competition.
After this, a short film was presented that had been an initiative of two of the faculty members of the Dr. HSJ Dental College. Dr. Anubha Gulati and Dr. Vishakha Grover had assembled as cast and crew to create this masterpiece. It was about a girl who was weak in studies but had a very creativity inclined mind.
The day ended with two fashion shows put up by the dental students. The first was titled ‘Chak De India’. As the title suggests, it showcased various traditional and contemporary attires worn throughout our diverse country. The famous rental shop Chotu Motu Verma sponsored it. The second was titled ‘Oenomel’. Its theme was based around a corporate wedding and Big Bazaar had sponsored it.
‘Ignition was a totally wonderful event,’ Shiny Kumar, one of the participants, concluded very aptly, ‘It was lit, all thanks to the batch of 2013’.
