Hoonar: A Day to Rhythm and Lyrics

Lightening up the corners of Monk’s Drop In, Hoonar in collaboration with Mukhtalif-The Poetry Society of MCM Students conducted a wonderful session of poetry and music on the evening of October 7th, 2016.

Two sets of performers sat waiting for their turn- the poets and the musicians, all of whom were nothing less than puffs of sweet victory, as they got down from the stage and as they delivered stellar performances one after the other.

Performances opened with a rock band playing covers of popular favourites including Urvasi by A.R. Rehman. This was followed by a line up of poets. Some more musical performances followed transporting the crowd to the vintage Bollywood era of the ’70s. It was followed by the introduction of Mukhtalif and its poets, and then back to back spoken word performances by the girls who flooded the room with powerful poetry on war, martyrdom, heartache, coffee and what not.

The ambiance was warm, the crowd spurred and the performers phenomenal. This event was the first of its kind and a huge success at that!
