To mark the best of the event, the department held an open Audio-Visual Quiz, which saw greater participation from the students of different courses. It also screened the Oxford Debate of Mr. Shashi Tharoor and a short documentary on Indian Independence called ‘India Takes Over (1947)’. Following it, the event witnessed a forceful discussion on the topic, “Indian Independence by far”. While the discussion remained mostly inconclusive, a broader picture of the nation’s progress was finally reflected.Eureka, the Department of History, MCM DAV College, Chandigarh, celebrated India’s 69thIndependence Day on Friday, August 14,2015.

Keeping with the tradition of infusing creativity with learning, a collage-making competition on the topic, “Are we really free?” was further organized. Amongst many entries, Rhythm Singh Randhawa (BAIII) took away the first prize while Nehmat Gondara (BA II) stood second.

The event was addressed by the principal, Mrs. Neena Dhawan. Commenting on the event she said, “Yes, we are really free. A large number of students speaking fearlessly their heart out in an event such as this shows how our freedom has empowered us.” She further congratulated the department for the success of the event and encouraged to hold many such events in the future.
