“Be the change, in order to bring the change”
Haryana– the state often hailed as one responsible for the relegated condition of the women in every aspect has turned the tables onto the critics with its immense support to the campaign of “Beti Padhao, Beti Bachao”. Loathed for contorted sex ratio, Haryana has seen improvement in it with the number of girls crossing 900 mark for the December month, a development which has happened for the first time in the decade.
The Haryana Government conferred state level award to the districts of Narnaul, Bhiwani and Jhajjar for their efforts to improve sex ration. The silver lining in the dark of declining ratio of girls in state was seen in December when the sex ratio escalated upward and crossed the 900 mark with 903 girls per 1000 boys. This achievement is considered to be an outcome of the extensive participation of the girls of the state into various sections and fields and thereby winning accolades in the same.
The Chief Minister, Mr. Manohar Lal Khattar credited the success of the program to states multi-pronged strategy implemented under “Beti Padhao, Beti Bachao” campaign. While 12 districts recorded sex ratio above the 900 mark in December, Sirsa bagged the top spot with the ratio of 999 girls per 1000 boys (something worth applauding).Panchkula has registered sex ratio of 961, Karnal (959), Fatehabad (952), Gurugram (946 ) with Jhajjar at the lowest ( 794 girls).
The state now has a target to achieve sex ratio above 950 within the next six months. The CM aims to makes Haryana as a paradigm of improving sex ratio at national level in order to keep true to the vision of empowering and emancipating the girl child in the nation and ensure their holistic development in every sphere of life. Various tough measures were taken while implementing the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostics Act 1994 towards achieving this far-fetched goal. The PM appreciated the state’s efforts of ‘Selfie With Daughters’ which was undertaken to bring the change in the society.
Haryana has brought about a revolutionary change in the outlook, treatment and condition of the women within the state and this has set an apt example for the other states as well. It is a proud moment for the entire nation to witness such a broadening of mental horizons of the citizens towards the indispensable strata of the society. And it is high time for us to understand that the development of a nation swings on the hinges of the women and hence they deserve every bit of respect and dignity.
