Evening Law Course Discontinued; Seats in Law Reduced from 360 to 300

Panjab University, Chandigarh was recently hit hard by the matter of illegality of the evening law course by Bar Council of India (BCI), so much so that the latter even recommended PU that it ‘discontinues the course’. Looks like the following days will offer no respite!

The recent meeting of the department conducted and presided over by the Chairman, Prof. Vijay Nagpal turned the waves altogether. It was decided that the Department of Law will be able to accommodate only 300 students, that too all in the morning session running from either 8:00 am- 2:30 pm or 9:00 am- 3:30 pm. Going by which, the number of seats for admissions 2017 onward has reduced by 60 and the evening course has been discontinued from the upcoming academic session (as recommended by BCI).

The reason given by the department for the reduction in seats is ‘space crunch’ to accommodate 360 students at one place, in one session. The final nod to the proposal is to be given by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Arun Kumar Grover.

Clearly, with the seats reduced and the evening session discontinued resulting in increase in competition to grab a seat, days aren’t as bright for those seeking admission in Department of Law, Panjab University, Chandigarh.
