Energy soar high with MCM Elections 2k16-2017

Enthusiasm and energy filled the air, as the final leg of the elections culminated at MCM DAV College for Women on September 7th, 2016.

The voting process began at 9:30AM in the Gymnasium Hall  and continued for an hour, with day scholars and hostelers all energetic to cast their vote. Students poured in from all corners inside the Gym Hall from separate entrances, which were allocated to them according to their respective courses.

The whole electoral process was supervised by the teachers inside the Gymnasium Hall and police was deployed at the gates. With the voters flocking in since 9:30AM in the morning, the gates were closed for voters at 10:30, strictly adhering to the clock.

The elections were a close contest and what is worth mentioning is that for the first time in history, a large number of candidates qualified to contest elections; there were 15 candidates in total contesting for various posts, with as many as 3 candidates for the post of President, 4 for the post of Vice President, 4 for General Secretary and 4 for Joint Secretary.

The counting commenced at around 11:00AM in the presence of the representatives of the contestants and the results were declared around1:00PM. Harman from BA 3rd year won the post of President with 467 votes, while Arpana Gill from BSc 3rd year was declared victorious for the post of Vice President. Himani Sharma of BCom 2nd year bagged the post of General Secretary, while Nisha Mann of BA 1st year was declared Joint Secretary amidst celebratory screams from supporters. The Principal, MCM DAV College, Dr Nisha Bhargava congratulated the newly elected council and wished them luck for the year ahead.
