25 September’15: Afghani Students community of the Panjab University celebrated with great pomp and show here today, the festival of Bakr-Id. The celebrations being held in the Physics Auditorium at Panjab University started at noon and were essentially an exhibition of the strength of the cultural fabric of PU. This meet was attended by some of the most well known faces of the Indian Foreign Relations.
The chief guest at this occasion was Ms. Nalini, the Director of ICCR, who joined the gathering in a holy recitation of the Quran. This was followed by a multitude of cultural programmes; an impromptu customary traditional Afghani dance being one of them. The highlight of the event was a “Shayari Competition” which culminated with awards being handed out to the best “shayar”. The festive gathering then proceeded to showcase the different ways in which Eid is celebrated across the world.
This lively gathering concluded with a sumptuous non vegetarian meal being taken together as is expected from an Eid feast. The carnival turned out to be a huge success garnering appreciation from all quarters.
