Much to Panjab University’s honor, one of its prominent alumni is going to join in as a lecturer in the same campus soon. And while the title says it loud and clear, we still ask, do you know who he is?
Well, it’s none other than the Former Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh. To the records, he pursued his masters degree from the Panjab University in 1954, and became professor in 1963. However, his inclined interest towards politics led to serving the nation as the Prime Minister, for a tenure of 10 years.
Keeping in view the laid guidelines of the constitution, which prohibits parliamentarians and legislators from holding positions with monetary and non-monetary benefits, the former Prime Minister dropped an enquiry at the Parliamentary forum, seeking permission for the same. The panel’s chief, BJP MP Satya Pal Singh quoted to a leading national daily, “We have cleared it. Manmohan Singh’s job as a teacher will not attract the provisions of office of profit.”
While both the sides of whether his office as a professor is legit or not are up and raging, Dr. Manmohan Singh shall join Panjab University as a professor of economics shortly. It is even being claimed that he shall accept the Jawaharlal Nehru Chair, which was lying vacant since long.
