Department of Indian theatre makes Panjab University proud.

Department of Indian Theatre, Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh
show “Kahaniyon Ka Rangmanch” earned huge applause and praise from the audience. Four shows were staged at the studio theatre of Indian Theatre.
Five dramatised stories of different writers were staged by the seven students of the
department namely Ambika Kamal, Chaman Bansal, Gurnam Kaiharba, Parminder Singh, Rahul, Nagal, Rakesh Ram and Sanjay Kumar. The actor oriented production was directed by National Best Supporting Actress and noted actress Ms. Baljinder Kaur. Each of the seven actors played many different roles in the act using minimum makeup or design or sets.

The students act was organised on the stories of “Doctor Ke Shabd” (written by RK
Narayan), “Gharwali” (written by Ismat Chugtai), “Rahmat-e-Khudabandi Ke Phool” written by Saahadat Hasan Manto), “Mughal Bachcha” (written by Ismat Chugtai) and “Do Aasthayen”
written by Amrit Lal Nagar). All the stories were different from each other and gave
different messages.

In “Doctor Ke Shabd”, the Doctor saved the life of patient by falsely
claiming that the patient was alright and there was no need for him to
declare his ‘Will’. The words of Doctor provided the patient with a will to
fight back to normal.
The act not only provided the practical training to the students in
organizing theatre show by using minimum resources but was successful in getting
standing ovation from the audience in its shows. The sets were
planned in a manner that the requisite accessories or properties could be
easily available at all places. The costumes of the actors were so light
that they can easily be carried in a bag while travelling.
Director of the act and Assistant Professor at PU, Ms. Baljinder Kaur said that it’s a
matter of pleasure and satisfaction that the actors got highlighted in the act. The students have got confidence and much needed exposure with the show, she added.
