The Common Admission Test (CAT), 2017 will be conducted on the 26th of November, 2017 (Sunday), in two sessions, as per the notification released on the official website on July 29.
Prof. Neeraj Dwivedi, Convener, CAT 2017, has issued the following points regarding this years’ exam. The registration process will open on August 9, 2017 and will close on September 20, 2017(5:00 PM). It will be conducted in approximately 140 cities throughout India. The fee for registration will only be payable through online modes (including credit card, debit card, netbanking). The registration fee is Rs. 900 for SC, ST and PwD category candidates and Rs. 1800 for all others. The admit card will be available for download from October 18, 2017 and the tentative time for declaration of results is in the second week of January, 2018.
This year, the test will be conducted by IIM Lucknow. The Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) are a group of 20 public autonomous institutes of management education and research in India. They primarily offer postgraduate, doctoral and executive education programmes. CAT is conducted as a pre-requisite to various management programmes of IIMs under two categories, broadly, Post Graduate Programmes in Management and Fellow Programmes in Management (equivalent to Ph.D.).
It is an online test with a total duration of 180 minutes. There will be three sections, namely, Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension, Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning and Quantitative Ability. The questions will include a mix of MCQ (Multiple Choice Questions) and ones in which answers will have to be typed directly into the space provided. The candidates will be allotted exactly 60 minutes for each of the three sections and they cannot switch from one section to another while answering the test. The use of a basic on-screen calculator will be permitted. A tutorial to understand the format of the test will be available on the CAT website from October 18, 2017.
