The feast of Saint Valentine’s Day was celebrated in full swing this year. However, the day proved to take an unusual turn in the life of a Bsc. final year student, Chameli Gupta. She was in a relationship with a boy since almost an year now, and it was their first Valentine’s Day.
Chameli Gupta lived in the Laxmi Bai Hostel of Panjab University and committed suicide around 1:00am, by drug overdose while her roommate Champa was away.
In order to compliment the beauty of her beloved, Raman gifted Chameli herbal roses by Patanjali, which ultimately proved to be the cause of her suicide. Reacting to the same, the tears from the eyes of Raman didn’t stop while he said, “Chameli was the love of my life. I am unable to reconcile the fact that she has committed suicide. The advertisement of the Patanjali roses that I brought, claimed that the they would stay fragrant for a month. I gifted them because we had our one year anniversary on 14th March. I wanted the day to be special for her.”
In a recent conversation with her roommate Champa, she said, “Chameli was a very happy-go-lucky girl. It is unbelievable that she took such an extreme step. I think there was something suspective in those roses, which prompted her to commit suicide. She was not at all a follower of Patanjali. Moreover, her favorite flowers were of jasmine, and not roses.”
The Crime Investigation Bureau is yet to comprehend the real cause behind her suicide.
