Book Review- The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini  -Avleen Kaur

Being a sort of an avid reader, I have happened to read some nice novels and have loved almost all of them. Some for being racy, some heartfelt, while some humourous. I’ve fallen in love with almost every author I’ve read, but being a writer myself, I always thought of having a unique style of writing. But after reading the following book, for the first time ever, I felt envy of the author and wanted to write just like him, leaving behind my own way of writing! I am talking about the world renowned, Khaled Hosseini and his book, The Kite Runner.

The book traces the story of Amir and his childhood friend Hassan. While Amir was the son of one of Kabul’s richest men, Hassan was the hare-lipped son of their servant, Ali. Despite of their disparities, Amir and Hassan, were both fed from the same woman because of the absence of their respective mothers. Hosseini states, “There is a kinship between people who had fed from the same breast, a kinship that not even time can break.”

The story traces enormous changes giving you goose bumps and leaving you in tears after every odd set of pages, sharing the story of two friends who belong to different strata of the society, being raised up together and turning out to be completely different individuals. How Amir turns a blind eye to Hassan being raped and how Hassan leaves no stone unturned for Amir, the closest friend he ever had!

The novel puts out a life of guilt and how that one chance can help you reform and not only repent.

It’s a must read for people who read a lot, read a little or are probably picking up a book for the first time.

I challenge you to not cry reading this piece of heart wrenching excellence.

Khaled Hosseini is one of the best storytellers the world has been blessed with.

Read the book and feel free to share your experience with us!
