With the festive season around the corner, cleanliness has finally broadened up from a household task to a collective waste management. And as the upholder of this achievement, Chandigarh Tourism, Chandigarh University and 92.7 Big FM collectively organized the “Big Gandhigiri” event with grand success on Oct 2, 2015.

“Big Gandhigiri”, which is aligned with the Prime Minister’s Swacch Bharat Abhiyan (Clean India Campaign), not only initiates to clean up the city’s walls but also to add art work to beautify the space at the same time.

Widening the radius of the initiative, the “Big Gandhigiri” was carried out in two sessions- one in the morning and the second in the evening, with both the sessions having their own specific activities. Follow up to learn more~

MORNING SESSION (10:00am-12:00pm):
As a part of this, the listeners of Big FM and residents from the tricity were asked to identify dirty public walls, which were later painted and beautified. The first surge of such beautification was given to a wall at Leisure Valley Sector 10, followed by that of Sector 22 and many others. This session turned into a gala event as the RJs of Big FM team enthralled the audience all throughout and was graced by Ms. Kavita Singh, Director of Tourism, Chandigarh Administration as the Guest of Honor.

•EVENING SESSION (4:00pm- 5:00pm):
The Global Shapers split out in the group of 20-25 at Sukhna Lake and took to the cleanliness issue with a “SOCIAL EXPERIMENT”. They came up with two activities within the session, one being a FREEZE MOB and the second being VIRAL CLAPS. While the first attracted a large audience, it was the second which proved to be the gravity of the event. The Viral Claps were executed on the following concept that wherever the Viral Clappers would spot any person littering around, they would surround him/her and clap for 15 times, after which one of the Clappers would throw the litter in the dustbin.

Overall, both the sessions signified how a small scale effort, with more participation can turn out to be revolutionary.
