The Panjab University Bicycle Lovers organized its first bicycle rally named “Ek Pehal Apni Aur” to promote an eco-friendly approach towards transportation in Panjab University, on April 5th 2016.

The rally was aimed at encouraging students, staff and other residents in the university campus to ditch motor-operated vehicles and develop cycle culture therein. The students were joined by the members of the staff as well as a few members of the non-teaching staff and various others.

It was flagged off from the Student Center at around 1 pm and the cyclists, with posters on their bicycle baskets, traversed across the varsity roads and spread the message to one and all.

They raised pro-cycling slogans while onlookers watched with awe. What showed explicitly was their zeal for the cause as they rode from StuC to Chemistry Department through Law Auditorium and crossing past Ankur School to Adm Block and finally back to StuC.

The event concluded with a slow cycle race and a message by the students pitching in for a better tomorrow. One of the organizers, Gurjinder Singh supported the initiative

saying, “This is the first of its kind initiative, making the scattered cyclists of the university come together. Being educated, if people like us would not accept the responsibility of using an eco-friendly mean of conveyance such as a bicycle, we surely cannot expect that from others.”
