The University Institute Of Legal Studies, Panjab University organized its 2nd National Academic Law Fest, Arguendo’ 2016. The second day of the fest witnessed the Semi-finals the The All India Gurcharan Singh Tulsi Criminal Law Annual Moot Court Competition, 2016; preliminary and quarter final rounds of 5th UILS National Client Counseling Competition, 2016 and two Literary events, Spell Bee and AD Mad show.
Teams from Amity Law School, Delhi; Army Institute of Law, Mohali; KLE Society’s Law College, Bangalore and NUSRL, Ranchi competed in the semi-final rounds of The All India Gurcharan Singh Tulsi Criminal Law Annual Moot Court Competition, 2016 held at 10:30 AM. Amity Law School, Delhi and Army Institute of Law, Mohali would be competing for the finals on the 19th of March, 2016.
A total of 14 teams participated in the 5th UILS National Client Counseling Competition, 2016. The student advocates showcased their listening and questioning skills which is very essential to conduct an effective interview. The Competition provided an opportunity for a valuable educational and cultural interchange between students, law teachers, and legal practitioners. The Department of Laws, PU; UPES, Dehradun; Symbiosis, Pune and Army Institute of Law, Mohali would be competing for the semi-finals and the finals on the final day.
The Spell Bee competition was held in the Department’s Moot Court Hall at 11:00 AM. Dr. Monika Singh and Dr. Harneet Sandhu, Assistant Professors; presided as judges for the competition. The event promoted the vocabulary skills among the students. Hasrat Chauhan, a student of UILS emerged victorious by correctly spelling the word “kitsch” and the runners-up were awarded with trophies and certificates.
The Ad-Mad Show was held at 2:30 PM wherein the participants were invited to show their marketing skills. The innovative event brought forth the dramatic and presentation skills of the students. The event was adjudged by Punjabi Playwright, Screenplay Writer, Live Theatre &
Film Director, Mr. Pali Bhupinder; Pujabi Actor, Mr. Sanjeev Atri; RJ Pankaj and UILS’ Alumni Pulkit Jain and Prateek Mahajan. A team of UILS’ final year students won the competition by selling “The Freedom 251” mobile phones in the most innovative and energetic manner.
The UILS Talent Hunt, 2016; was organized by the senior teachers of the Department and Department Representatives for exhibiting entrepreneurial skills of their students. The event was inaugurated by Col. G. S. Chadha (Retd.), Registrar, Panjab University. About 15 stalls showcasing varieties of handicrafts, food stuffs, games, video games etc were put up.
Prof. Sangeeta Bhalla, Director, UILS, congratulated the winners and the participants of various events and encouraged the teacher coordinators, faculty members, administrative staff and the students for putting forth their tremendous efforts.
