Second day of Euphoria, the cultural fest of Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH, Chandigarh), was fun packed with various on-stage and off-stage events. It took place at the auditorium of the Sarai building and had eminent guests who were invited as judges for various competitions.The night turned magical when Garry Sandhu braced the stage.
The day started with a fun on-stage activity called ‘Ape a Video’ where the contestants were shown music videos for a minute and they had to reenact the video as closely as possible. It was judged by faculty members of the medical college and had over 18 participants.
The next event was the debate. Notion of the debate was ‘Aadhar linking is an infringement on the right to privacy’. It had six teams participating from various colleges of Rohtak, Solan, Jammu and Shimla with PGIMS Rohtak (Pandit Bhagwat Dayal Sharma Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences Rohtak) wining the best team award. The panel of judges comprised of Dr. Anita Nangia (Senior professor ofDepartment of Englsih in Dev Samaj College for women), Dr. Archana Verma Singh (Professor of English Literature in SD College, Chandigarh), Ms. Sharda Kaushik (Ex-director of regional institute of English and HOD of English Department of PEC University) and Mr. Kuljit Bains (Internet Editor-in-chief of The Tribune).
The third event was the western dance competition which was welcomed with much cheers and enthusiasm. It had three categories; solo, duet and group performances. Participants danced to various interesting themes like ‘an ode to Madhuri Dixit’ and ‘robotic Manjulika’. The judges for the event were two faculty members of the college and two esteemed actors of Bollywood; Ms. Seema Pahwa and Mr. Brijendra Kala. Both, Pahwa and Kala, starred in the the 2017 movie ‘Shubh Mangal Saavdhan’.
Between all these events, various off-stage events took place. Some of these events included speed dating, a game of thrones quiz, graffiti and rangoli making, street plays and sher-o-shayari. There were also many food, handicrafts and games stall outside the venue which included a stall for Playstation and Virtual Reality (VR) where contestants could play FIFA tournament on their set ups.
The venue then shifted to the ground adjoining the hostel where the stage was set up for Garry Sandhu’s most awaited performance.
After much waiting, the crowd got a glimpse of Garry Sandhu and got a chance to watch him perform.
‘Blockbuster’ was what Konika, a student of Homeopathic Medical College and Hospital, called the second day of Euphoria when asked to describe her day in one word.
And so, the day ended with great amount of laughter and dancing as everyone in the audience enjoyed their few days off from the hectic life of college and medical wards.
