5 lesser known Alan Rickman films


“If people want to know who I am, it is all in the work.” – Alan Rickman.

A professor whose face was always etched with arches that contained deep, heartbreaking secrets in their creases, a person who was motivated by loyalty for loved ones, deceiving everyone else with a cruel exterior, a lover who let his heart crumple happily and sought refuge in the eyes of his loved one till he ‘moved no more’, Professor Snape turned the tables towards the end of Harry Potter series and became the ‘bravest man’ Harry ever knew.
But even more brave and enigmatic was Alan Rickman, who gave life to this complicated, yet absolutely loveable character. He posed as the perfect villain for any movie that came his way.

The Hollywood film industry suffered a huge loss as the 69 year old passed away on Thursday after short battle with cancer, leaving his fans devastated and shocked. Like the headlines, everyone lost Snape. Again.

Here are some lesser known Alan Rickman movies which are worth the appreciation  :

1. Perfume: story of a murderer:


Directed by Tom Tykwer , this movie was one of the most expensive German movies crossing over $135 million in the year 2006. Tykwer said that Rickman was his first choice for the character ‘Antoine Richis’, a loving, widower father who flees the city and leaves nobility just to save his daughter’s life. The character was very well portrayed by Alan Rickman, known for his loyalty to his roles.

2. Die Hard :


“When you steal $600, you can just disappear. When you steal $600 million, they will find you unless they think you’re already dead.” – Hans Gruber. An internationally feared German terrorist who was the younger brother of Simon Gruber and the main antagonist of Die Hard(1998), Gruber was the mastermind behind many genius robberies in the movie. Being an extremist, while having a calm persona, Hans had no problem killing innocent people. Because that was his duty. And loyalty was his first priority- A role solely made for and contentedly done by Alan Rickman.

3. The Butler :


Released in 2013, this film revolves around an African- American Butler who has served the White House for all of his life. Alan Rickman plays the role of Ronald Reagan, the 40th president of the United States, again, doing full justice to the role.

4. Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of The Fleet Street : 


Directed by Tim Burton in 2007, a musical thriller, this was another hit film, that starred Alan Rickman. Starring besides Johnny Depp, Rickman played the prime Antagonist with all his grace.

5.  Galaxy Quest (1999) :


Rickman has left no stone unturned when it comes to the doing films of different genres. Very successfully, he played the role of a spaceship’s alien science officer in this science-fiction comedy film. The film grossed over $45 million in US alone and won innumerable awards for the best sci-fi movie.

But above all, Alan Rickman Sir will always be remembered as Prof. Severus Snape, known for his love and loyalty, his complexity and his efficiency. Rickman immortalised himself through Snape , who will continue to move the hearts of the audience for the generations to come.

And when one gets old, and watches a Harry Potter movie with their grandchildren, and someone asks them , “Harry Potter? Really?” They’ll smile and say, “Always”.
