2016 doesn’t seem to have a very optimistic beginning to it. It has been 16 days and 6 terrorist attacks have occurred. What exactly is 2016 leading to? Here are the 6 deadly terror attacks since the beginning of the new year in different parts of the world that took a toll on innocent lives.
- 1st January, Kabul (Afganistan)
A suicide attack on a popular French restaurant in the Afghan capital, Kabul on the very first day of 2016 killed a 12-year-old boy and wounded more than a dozen other people. The restaurant was a popular spot for many foreigners. Moreover, the blast occurred near the residential area of the diplomats.
2. 2nd January, Pathankot (India)
The attack at the Pathankot air base was a nauseating beginning to 2016. On the morning of 2nd January, 2016 at around 03:30 am, at least six heavily-armed men dressed in Indian Army uniforms breached the high-security perimeter of the airbase in Pathankot, where 9 of our jawans laid down their lives. Jaish-e-Mohammed’s involvement in the attack is suspected. Many countries around the globe condemned this attack.
3. 12th January, Istanbul (Turkey)
An explosion in the heart of Istanbul’s historic Sultanah met tourist district killed at least 10 people (included 9 germans) and wounded 15. It was noted to be a suicide bomblast.
4. 13th January, Quetta (Pakistan)
A suicide bomber killed at least 15 people, most of them policemen, outside a polio eradication centre in Pakistan’s western city of Quetta. The bomb ripped through a police van that had just arrived at the centre to provide an escort for vaccination workers engaged in a drive to immunise children. Militant group Jundullah, claimed responsibility for the attack.
5. 14th January Jakarta (Indonesia)
Another set of suicide bombers and gunmen attacked the heart of Indonesia’s capital and the assault was claimed by Islamic state. 7 people were killed in Jakarta in multiple blasts and a gunfight, five being the attackers themselves.
6. 16th January, Burkina Faso
At least 23 people of 18 different nationalities are known to have died after Islamist militants attacked a luxury hotel in Burkina Faso. Al-Qaeda militants attacked the Splendid Hotel in the West African state’s capital, Ouagadougou, as well as a cafe and another hotel nearby. Four of the attackers were killed, two of them reportedly were women.
We, the people world over, need to break every boundaries and fill the world with peace and love. Even though it is never that easy as it sounds but we must remember that what can be won by love not guns.
